I was watching some UFC 98 matches when I began to realize how evolved the fighters had become. Gone were the days being superb in one aspect was enough for a victory. Nowadays, versatility counts as much as raw power. Knowing when to utilize grapples or when to fight standing up is a big key to victory.
Before I stopped training to work on my thesis, I had engaged in some Judo. I felt that having a ground game focused routine is much better than learning how to strike. I wanted to be a take-down specialist.
However, I now understand that this would not be enough for a competitive bout.
I have decided that after I finish my thesis, I'd probably study some boxing like Arlovski did, or copy Machida and do some karate.
Hopefully, I'd be able to pick up some striking skills and be competitive in some bouts.
