In the 1990's, MMA was trying to get a foothold on mainstream recognition as a real sport. There was a struggle between what was perceived as a "bloodsport" and the true vision some people had. In 2011, it is the same with Bare Knuckle Boxing, the grandfather of MMA and the father of Boxing. In backyards and warehouses throughout the U.S. BKB fights have been going on without proper medical attention or rules. The fact is it is real and people are doing it. The other fact is that there are hundreds if not thousands of people around the world trying to legitimize the "sport" of BKB. An international governing body is hard as work putting together guidelines and rules that each fight will have to adhere to. My passion and involvement with MMA has made me realize that the BKB community is just as serious and I feel that within 5 years this "Gentleman's Sport" will compete with MMA for TV air time. Remember you heard it here first!
